The parish was founded during a period of rapid expansion of the city when the need for an additional parish in the city
was evident.
Work began on the building of the Parish Hall/Church in the spring of 1933 under the direction of
the Architect Mr F.A. Coyle of Newcastle at a cost of seventeen hundred pounds with the foundation stone being placed in the
nearly finished building that autumn.
The first Bishop of Lancaster, Thomas Wulstan Pearson OSB, DD, carried out
the blessing in this, the Parish's first building on the Blackwell Road site
The first Parish Priest of St
Margaret Mary’s was Father James Parkinson and since then there have been 10 Priests and 18 Assistant Priests.
The current clergy at St Margaret Mary’s are Fr Anthony Gaskin and Fr John Baron,
